Kathleen Kingsley
Kathleen has been a dancer, choreographer and dance educator for over forty years. Her early training and performing experience was with the Minnesota Dance Theatre, and she has performed with companies in Florida, Missouri, and Colombia, SA. As co-founder and co-artistic director of City in Motion Dance Theater in Kansas City, Kathleen choreographed and performed with the company, and developed the City in Motion Children’s Dance Theater, the first of three children’s dance theaters that she has created. She has conducted workshops for organizations including the National Dance Education Organization, the Peace Center for the Arts in Greenville, South Carolina, and at the Dance and the Child International global conferences in The Hague, Netherlands and Kingston, Jamaica. With four other educators, Kathleen co-founded and taught at Río Gallinas Charter School for Ecology and the Arts in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She developed and taught the first-ever International Baccalaureate Degree Dance program at the United World College, USA. Kathleen is currently a teaching artist with the Santa Fe Opera’s ALTO program and with Any Given Child Albuquerque, two educational outreach programs in partnership with the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. She is currently the ALTO residency coordinator. She is a fierce and passionate advocate for movement/dance in the classroom as a vital way to embody learning as well as a way to honor children’s passion for and desire to create. Kathleen is the Executive Artistic Director of MoveWest.
