As a collaborator with MoveWest, her goals are to assist others in expressing themselves through the sharing of their own stories and creative exploration. Her goals are to empower herself, her students, and her audiences through the work of artistic expression and exploration.
Amy Compton: Dancer, Choreographer, Educator
As an inspired performer and educator with a B.F.A. in Dance Performance and Modern Foreign Languages as well as an M.Ed. in Adult Learning and Development, Amy now lives in Santa Fe, where she teaches and creates curriculum for ArtWorks, Santa Fe High School, The National Dance Institute of New Mexico, and MoveWest.
Amy spent two decades in Cleveland, Ohio as a performer/choreographer/educator. She choreographed and performed with many modern dance companies as well as for Cleveland Public Theater, The Cleveland Playhouse, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Cleveland Opera and The Cleveland Orchestra. She also taught at Cleveland State University, Lake Erie College, and Lakeland Community College as well as various community outreach projects while a teaching artist with The Dance/Theatre Collective and Young Audiences of Greater Cleveland.
In New Mexico additional projects have included: choreography commissions for The Santa Fe Community Orchestra, Dance Company EXCEL and Lifesongs at The Lensic Theater; performances at CCA Santa Fe with Uroboros in “Mapping Resonance,” “Round Pen Duets: Equus Projects” with Joanna Mendl Shaw, and “Armory” by Micaela Gardner. You may have also seen Amy dancing through the Multiverse for multiple seasons at Meow Wolf or traveling throughout the state as a teaching artist for NDI New Mexico’s Outreach Program.
Amy is moved by transformational learning, making art for positive social change, and investigating the personal and collective unconscious in order to create strong connections to the people and world around her.
